Katherine Hartley Short, the eldest child of actor and comedian Martin Short, has died at the age of 42. A family representative confirmed the news on Monday, with the Short family describing themselves as devastated by the loss.

Katherine graduated from New York University in 2006 and went on to build a career as a licensed clinical social worker in Los Angeles, dedicating her professional life to supporting others through difficult times.
She was the daughter of Martin Short and his late wife Nancy Dolman, a Canadian actor and singer who died in 2010 following a long battle with ovarian cancer. According to TMZ, which first reported the death, Katherine died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The loss comes during what has been a particularly painful period for the veteran entertainer, who has also been mourning the recent death of his long-time friend and fellow actor Catherine O'Hara. Short, best known internationally for his roles in films such as Father of the Bride and the acclaimed television series Only Murders in the Building, has built a career spanning more than four decades in comedy and drama.
