A 54-year-old woman has died after being pulled unresponsive from Neds Beach on Lord Howe Island at about 10.30am on Wednesday 25 March. Members of the public pulled her from the water and commenced CPR.

Officers from the Mid North Coast Police District attended with the assistance of local hospital staff and provided first aid before the woman was taken to Gower Wilson Memorial Hospital, but she was unable to be revived.

Lord Howe Island lies 600 kilometres directly east of mainland Port Macquarie and is one of Australia's most remote inhabited locations. The island is home to about 382 permanent residents.
