A man has been charged following a pursuit and a siege in Sydney's west on 22 March. Shortly before 3am, officers from Mount Druitt Police Area Command attempted to stop a silver Toyota Camry travelling along Aurora Drive, Tregear, and when the vehicle allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated where it continued onto Luxford Road.
A short time later the vehicle stopped at a block of units on Halinda Street, Whalan, where a 38-year-old man entered the premises. The passenger of the vehicle was arrested, however released after enquiries were made. Officers from Mount Druitt Police Area Command, with the assistance of the Operations Support Group, established a perimeter around the property.
The man was arrested shortly before 5am when he exited the home. He was taken to Mount Druitt Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit, not stop, drive recklessly as a first offence.
In a separate incident on the same day, a man has been shot by police following an incident at Logan Central when officers were initially called to Ewing Road, near Carmody Street, following reports of an armed man with a knife making threats. Upon arrival, officers attempted to engage with the man before he approached them with the weapon, and he was subsequently shot by police.
Officers immediately provided first aid to the man before he was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment. No police officers or members of the public were injured during the incident. The matter is being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
