  • A 27-year-old man was shot by police in Logan Central after allegedly approaching officers with a knife; he remains in serious but stable condition.
  • A fatal two-vehicle crash near Esk claimed the life of a 26-year-old Beaudesert man; a 55-year-old Esk man was hospitalised in serious condition.
  • The incidents highlight continued pressure on Queensland emergency services dealing with violent crime and road trauma this week.

Police shot a man following an incident at Logan Central on 21 March, after officers were called to Ewing Road near Carmody Street following reports of an armed man with a knife making threats.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to engage with the man before he approached them with the weapon, and he was subsequently shot by police. Officers immediately provided first aid to the man before he was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment. According to 9News, no police officers or members of the public were injured during the incident.

The matter is being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission. A crime scene has been declared, and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.

The shooting was one of multiple emergency incidents that tested Queensland services overnight. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating following a fatal two vehicle crash at Redbank Creek near Esk on 21 March, with initial information indicating around 3:05pm a 2016 Kia Cerato and a 2015 Toyota Kluger were travelling in opposite directions along Esk Hampton Road near Brennan Road before colliding.

The driver and single occupant of the Kia, a 26-year-old Beaudesert man, was declared deceased at the scene. The driver and single occupant of the Toyota, a 55-year-old Esk man, was transported in a serious condition to Toowoomba Hospital.

The Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the circumstances of the crash and are appealing anyone with relevant information or vision to come forward. The crash is part of a concerning pattern in Queensland; the Queensland Police Service has urged motorists to take greater care on roads following a tragic week, with six lives lost in five days being a powerful reminder of the devastating impact that road trauma has on individuals, families and communities across the state.

Anyone with information about the Logan incident can contact Queensland Police through their reporting portal or call 131 444. For the Esk crash, the Forensic Crash Unit is seeking any dashcam or vision evidence from witnesses.
