  • Young is expected to perform at the first of three scheduled shows at Estadio River Plate on Monday, March 23
  • The guitarist has been AC/DC's rhythm player since 2014, replacing his uncle Malcolm Young

Stevie Young, who plays guitar for legendary Australian rock band AC/DC, has been hospitalised in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires, but is still expected to perform next week. The 69-year-old Glasgow-born musician was admitted to a local hospital where he is undergoing a full battery of tests.

Young arrived in Buenos Aires not feeling well and was admitted to hospital where he is undergoing a series of complete studies. According to the band, Stevie is doing well and is in good spirits, looking forward to getting on stage on Monday.

AC/DC is scheduled to perform in Buenos Aires on March 23, 27 and 31 as part of their international Power Up tour. The band had played a show days earlier in Santiago, Chile. The three Buenos Aires concerts at Estadio River Plate mark the band's return to the city after a 16-year absence.

Stevie Young is the nephew of AC/DC founders Malcolm and Angus Young. Since 2014, Young has held the position of rhythm guitarist after Malcolm Young departed for medical reasons. Malcolm died in November 2017 at the age of 64. Young had also played with the band in 1988 during a U.S. tour, demonstrating his familiarity with the band's tight rhythm section.

The tour continues a heavy schedule for the veteran rockers. After Buenos Aires, the band is scheduled to play in Mexico City by early April, followed by a 17-date North American run beginning in July. The Power Up tour, named after the band's 2020 album, has kept AC/DC on the road since May 2024.

For long-serving fans and ticket holders, Young's hospitalisation adds to a running list of health challenges the band has weathered over recent years. Yet each time AC/DC has adapted and returned to the stage. The expectation now is that the pattern will hold.
