  • A 15-year-old student was charged after allegedly firing a BB gun pellet at another student at Rose Bay Secondary College in Dover Heights.
  • The incident occurred just after 1:45pm on Thursday; police responded and the air gun was seized.
  • No injuries were reported; the school was placed into lockdown as a precaution.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged following an incident at Rose Bay Secondary College in which he allegedly fired a pellet from a BB gun at another student. Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command were called to the school just after 1.45pm on Thursday following reports of a teenager with a firearm.

No one was injured during the incident. The student was arrested at the scene and the air gun was seized.

The facility was placed into lockdown by security as a precaution prior to police arrival. This swift response reflects heightened awareness in NSW schools and police departments following recent incidents involving weapons in educational settings.

The incident comes just over a week after police were called to Campbelltown TAFE, a suburb 53 kilometres south-west of Sydney CBD, on March 10, when officers were alerted that two people were acting suspiciously. That earlier incident resulted in a water pistol being seized.

Air guns and BB guns are treated as firearms under Australian law, making their unlawful possession or use a serious matter. Schools across NSW have emphasised safety protocols in response to concerns about weapons in educational environments.
