  • Pokemon Pokopia's version 1.0.2 patch addresses multiple quest progression bugs that could halt player advancement
  • The game has sold over 2.2 million copies in its first four days, becoming a major Switch 2 driver
  • Bugs often stemmed from the game's creative freedom allowing players to break progression in unexpected ways
  • Fixes target specific in-game requests where player actions like early block placement created softlocks

A software update has pushed Pokemon Pokopia to version 1.0.2, addressing bugs in the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive that has sold over 2.2 million copies in its first week. The patch tackles progression-blocking issues that had prevented some players from advancing through the game's story.

Version 1.0.2 fixes several progression-halting bugs, some triggered by very specific actions like placing blocks in certain spots during a quest. In Bleak Beach, if players broke the cracked blocks on a bridge before Professor Tangrowth crossed it, the request would become difficult to progress, as would a specific sequence of actions preventing the bridge-repair quest from triggering.

Early game areas also had issues. In Withered Wasteland, Squirtle would occasionally climb a nearby tree, becoming impossible to talk to and hindering progress. In Rocky Ridges, a specific sequence of actions could prevent players from meeting Rotom, and the "Clear Off the Path!" quest could be blocked under certain conditions.

The underlying cause reveals something about Pokopia's design philosophy. Most of the issues appear to stem from player freedom, as the developers couldn't predict every possible way players might approach an objective. The game gives genuine creative freedom but also runs a structured story that gates certain abilities and progression, creating friction when players use their building tools in unintended ways.

Players too eager to restore and beautify areas had issues: those who placed blocks over Snorlax's cave without realising he was there missed him entirely, and similar problems occurred for Hitmonchan's questline when blocks were placed over the cracked blocks near him.

Beyond quest fixes, Spinarak's incorrect typing in the Pokedex has been corrected. If these issues were previously encountered, the update automatically resolves them.

This first patch mostly introduces bug fixes for quest progression troubles after the game has been out for less than two weeks. While this is a solid first step, the Pokopia community has bigger asks on the table, with players vocal about wanting improvements to the GameShare and multiplayer systems.

The team behind Pokopia has been listening to player feedback and is already hard at work to make tweaks and improvements, signalling that larger quality-of-life updates may follow once the most critical bugs are resolved. For now, the priority has been clearing the path for new players to experience the game without hitting progression walls.
