A man has been shot while walking through a suburban park in the middle of the day, in what authorities are treating as an isolated incident.
The man was attacked around 12.30pm on Thursday in a park just off Vantage Boulevard in Craigieburn, in Melbourne's northern suburbs. He was injured in the lower body and rushed to hospital. Victoria Police confirmed his injuries were not life-threatening.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. "The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated," Victoria Police said in a statement.
The shooting highlights the unpredictability of violence in public spaces, even in suburban recreational areas where families and residents typically gather during daylight hours. Parks are normally considered safe community spaces, making daytime attacks of this nature rare and concerning.
Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers. No details about a suspect or the motive for the shooting have been released at this stage.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities. Residents in the Craigieburn area may expect increased police presence as the investigation develops.
