Police have charged a man following a pursuit and several crashes in Melbourne's inner east yesterday evening. The incident saw a grey Ford Ranger collide with multiple vehicles across Richmond, Collingwood and Fitzroy before coming to rest on York Street in Richmond.
Officers spotted the Ford Ranger allegedly overtake them on Highett Street in Richmond about 6.50pm, travelling on three wheels into oncoming traffic and forcing motorists to take evasive action. A short police pursuit took place before the Ford Ranger crashed on York Street in Richmond around 7pm.
The vehicle crashed into four vehicles on York Street and approximately six others in the Collingwood and Fitzroy areas during the incident. A 57-year-old female pedestrian was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after she fell fleeing the scene.
The driver allegedly fled on foot but was arrested a short distance away. The 49-year-old man allegedly returned a positive oral fluid test and a quantity of drugs were seized from the vehicle.
The Oakleigh man has been charged with dangerous driving while pursued by police, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, criminal damage, possess drug of dependence, drug driving and other traffic offences. He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.
