Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will receive a substantial content update this week alongside its PC debut, according to director Hideo Kojima. The additions include a harder difficulty mode, replayable boss encounters, and live-action cutscenes that were originally cut from the PlayStation 5 release.
The PC version launches on 19 March 2026, and new updates will also be released for the PlayStation 5 version at the same time as the PC launch. Speaking on the Japanese radio show Spacewalk, Kojima outlined the scope of improvements coming to both platforms.
The additions include a new, harder difficulty option titled To The Wilder, along with new items and gameplay adjustments based on collected player data. Players will be able to replay Neil battles at any time, while the character Chiral Cat will appear in Sam's room.
A significant portion of the update addresses content that didn't make the original release window. Live-action scenes previously cut from the game due to storage limitations will be added in the updated version. This reflects the creative choices Kojima made during development, prioritising the PS5 version's delivery over the initially ambitious scope of the project.
The PC version supports unlocked frame rates during gameplay, ultra widescreen support and support for the DualSense controller, as well as upscaling and frame generation. The PC version will release globally on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The update follows Kojima's previous decision to reduce the overall difficulty of Death Stranding 2 compared to the original game. Earlier comments suggested Kojima wanted the sequel to reach a broader audience than the notoriously punishing first entry, though he acknowledged the shift received mixed reactions from core players who appreciated the original's demanding design philosophy.
