During a recent visit to a brewery in London with Prince William, Catherine disclosed that she has significantly reduced her alcohol consumption since her cancer diagnosis, telling brewery owner Hannah Rhodes "since my diagnosis I haven't had much alcohol" and adding "it's something I have to be a lot more conscious of now."
The couple was undertaking a series of engagements centred on London's communities and local trade, including a visit to Borough Market as part of celebrations highlighting the River Thames and the stories of those who live in the city. At Borough Market, Catherine and William chopped cheese, handed out crumble, and made coffees, with the Princess showing off her barista skills by making a cappuccino for her husband, though the brew was declined for not being decaf.
Catherine first revealed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and is now in remission. Prince William later described it as the "hardest year" of his life. She has never revealed the type of cancer with which she was diagnosed or any details of her treatment beyond saying she would undergo preventive chemotherapy.
In January, the Princess released a statement noting "it is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery," adding that "it takes time to adjust to a new normal" and that she is "looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead."
The Princess has been candid about the emotional and physical toll of her recovery. In July 2025, she described the adjustment as a "roller coaster", telling hospital patients "you have to find your new normal and that takes time." When visiting the Royal Marsden Hospital in London where she received treatment, she told one person undergoing chemotherapy "it's really tough."
Since announcing her cancer was in remission, Catherine has slowly begun to resume public duties, and appears to be picking up the pace in 2026. According to royal observers, "this year feels very different to last year," with last year marked by a "very gradual return to work" where she emphasised how difficult getting back to normal can be, but this year she has "set the tone for being ready to be more visible."
King Charles was also diagnosed with cancer in 2024 and continues to undergo treatment. The royal family's recent experience with cancer has prompted both the King and the Princess to take more visible roles in supporting cancer charities and patients.
