  • Rose Byrne nominated for Best Actress for 'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You'; Jacob Elordi nominated for Best Supporting Actor for 'Frankenstein'
  • Musician Nick Cave nominated for Best Original Song; production designer Fiona Crombie nominated for Best Production Design on 'Hamnet'
  • Ceremony airs Sunday March 15 in Los Angeles; Monday March 16 at 11am AEDT on Channel 7 and 7Plus in Australia, free to stream

Rose Byrne is up for best actress for "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You", which she won the Golden Globe for earlier this month, while Brisbane-born Jacob Elordi also earned his first Oscars nomination, scoring a Best Supporting Actor nod for "Frankenstein". The pair represent just two of four Australians in contention at the 98th Academy Awards.

Musician Nick Cave has also received a surprise shot at a major gong with a nomination for best original song. Cave was nominated for the title song to Clint Bentley's film Train Dreams, which stars Australian actor Joel Edgerton. Australian costume and production designer Fiona Crombie has also been nominated for an Oscar this year, in the best production design category for her work on Hamnet.

Both of the acting nominees are first-time contenders. Byrne's performance in indie film If I had Legs I'd Kick You has already earned her the best actress prize at four key pre-Oscars events, including the Golden Globes. The Brisbane-born actor said he was "beside himself" after receiving the news. "I am so excited. I mean, I'm 28 years old. It's wind in the sails," he said.

The ceremony takes place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, United States on Sunday, March 15 at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. Comedian Conan O'Brien is set to host the show for the second consecutive time.

For Australian viewers, Channel Seven and 7plus have the broadcast rights for both the 2026 Oscars red carpet and the ceremony itself. The live red carpet coverage kicks off at 9.30am AEDT on Seven and streams live at the same time on 7plus. The ceremony itself begins at 10am AEDT 16 March on Channel 7 and 7 Plus. Access to 7Plus requires creating an account but the streaming service is free.

The sixteen nominations received by Sinners are the most in Oscar history, surpassing the previous record of fourteen shared by All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997), and La La Land (2016). Conan O'Brien is set to host the show for the second consecutive time, after receiving acclaim for hosting the previous year, with Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan returning as executive producers for the third consecutive year.

The deal will cover the 2026, 2027, and 2028 award ceremonies. The Oscars will be broadcast live and exclusively on Seven and 7plus, with a special encore screening at night.
