Resident Evil Requiem's explosive commercial success has prompted Capcom to commit substantial post-launch resources to the survival-horror blockbuster. Game director Koshi Nakanishi confirmed in a video message that the developer is already hard at work on a story expansion, though players should not expect it to arrive imminently.
The announcement comes as the game approaches 5 million copies sold in its first week. According to reporting from gaming outlets, Requiem has become the fastest-selling entry in the franchise's history, outpacing both the RE2 and RE4 remakes on launch sales and surpassing their player counts on Steam.
The expansion will "delve deeper into the world of Requiem," though Capcom has provided no information about its focus, setting, or playable characters. Nakanishi noted that the team is "hard at work on it now" but acknowledged that "it will take some time" before players can experience the new content. That deliberate pacing stands in contrast to the rushed release cycles that plagued earlier entries in the franchise.
Before the story expansion arrives, Capcom has mapped out a more immediate content roadmap. A photo mode is coming to allow players to capture the horrors encountered throughout the campaign. More intriguingly, a mystery mini-game will launch around May, with Nakanishi teasing it as a "surprise."
The studio is also addressing technical issues; a recent patch for the PC version tackled performance problems reported by players. This commitment to ongoing support reflects lessons learned from previous mainline entries. Resident Evil 7 and Village both received substantial post-launch expansions that introduced new characters and gameplay variations, establishing a pattern that Requiem appears set to follow.
For players who have already exhausted Requiem's campaign, which takes roughly 30 hours to complete in full, this announcement represents a meaningful commitment to extending the game's lifespan. Whether the expansion will introduce entirely new characters or expand existing storylines remains unknown, though fan speculation has already begun circulating online.
