Police have charged a 54-year-old man with murder after he allegedly fatally stabbed another man at a home in Maudsland on the Gold Coast.
Emergency services were called to a property in McCrae Court around 6.40pm yesterday. When officers arrived, they found two men at the address; a 34-year-old had sustained critical injuries from multiple stab wounds inflicted with a knife. He was declared dead at the scene.
The 54-year-old from Maudsland was arrested at the scene. According to Queensland Police, he has been charged with one count of murder domestic violence offence. He appeared in Southport Magistrates Court the following day.
Police confirmed that the pair were known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to the public. No further details about the nature of their relationship have been released.
The charge carries significant weight in Queensland's legal framework. Domestic and family violence offences flagged within Queensland's criminal justice system are recorded to ensure patterns of behaviour are evident to police and courts. This case becomes part of Queensland's concerning trend; recent statistics show that nearly half of homicides in the state involve family and domestic violence contexts.
