  • Season 4 premieres June 3, 2026, on Prime Video with three episodes releasing weekly
  • The season follows separated heroes reuniting to face an apocalyptic threat one year after Season 3
  • Season 5 has been confirmed as the final season of the acclaimed Critical Role adaptation

The Legend of Vox Machina will return to Prime Video on June 3, 2026, with Season 4 bringing the beloved Critical Role fantasy campaign back to screens after a year away. The animated series will roll out across three episodes weekly rather than in a single dump, giving viewers time to absorb each instalment.

Season 4 picks up approximately one year after the climactic events of Season 3, when the heroes defeated the Chroma Conclave and saved the realm of Exandria from destruction. The new season finds the adventurers scattered across the globe, each pursuing separate paths and searching for personal meaning. That peace shatters when an ancient evil awakens and threatens the entire realm, forcing the band back together for their greatest challenge yet.

The teaser footage shown at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 offers a taste of what awaits fans. The heroes are planning a high-stakes heist to steal a secret scroll from a heavily guarded vault inside a Cobalt archive. This dangerous mission forms part of their desperate attempt to prevent an apocalyptic event, setting the stage for Season 4's central conflict.

The show's ensemble cast includes Critical Role founders Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O'Brien, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham. These voice actors have become synonymous with the characters they first brought to life at the tabletop, and their performances have helped elevate the animated adaptations into acclaimed television.

In a significant milestone announced at Comic-Con 2025, Prime Video has confirmed that Season 5 will be the final season of The Legend of Vox Machina. This renewal allows the creators to conclude their vision properly rather than risk cancellation or an unsatisfying ending.

"It's so rare for any television series to get to tell a complete story, beginning to end, exactly as it was envisioned," Sam Riegel and Travis Willingham said when the final season was confirmed. "We're so grateful to our fans, the critters, our partners at Prime Video, and the original Kickstarter backers for bringing this show to life."

Critical Role's expansion into animation has proven remarkably successful. Beyond The Legend of Vox Machina, Prime Video is also adapting the company's second tabletop campaign, The Mighty Nein, set in the same world of Exandria approximately 20 years in the future. A Critical Role video game is also in development, showing how far the livestream phenomenon has travelled from its origins as a hobby project among friends.
